Privacy policy
wicktone is a private project, built to keep your stuff on your device. This page explains what little data is processed when you use this website and the wicktone studio, and what your rights are under the GDPR.
The short version
- Your projects, samples, code and recordings stay in your browser. I never receive them.
- No cookies, no ads, no social media plugins, no fonts or scripts from other servers.
- I count visits with Plausible, an analytics tool without cookies that I run myself, and only if you say yes.
1. Who is responsible
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Peter Braith
Berresgasse 11, 1220 Wien, Austria
Email: daspetemail@gmail.com
See also the imprint.
2. Visiting this website (server log files)
When you open a page, your browser sends technical data to the web server, which processes it automatically: your IP address, date and time of the request, the requested address, the referring page, the HTTP status, the amount of data transferred, and your browser and operating system (user agent).
This data is needed to deliver the website and keep it secure, for example to detect and fend off attacks. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The log files are deleted daily.
The website is hosted by netcup GmbH, Karlsruhe, Germany (www.netcup.com).
3. Storage in your browser
wicktone saves your work in the storage of your own browser (localStorage and IndexedDB), so it is still there next time. This data stays on your device and is never sent to me. Stored are:
wicktone:projectyour current project (autosave)wicktone:uithe editor layout, for example whether the code panel is openkeyval-store(IndexedDB) audio samples you loaded into the studiowicktone:consentyour analytics choice, so you are not asked on every pageplausible_ignoreset only if you decline analytics, so it stays off
This storage is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for (Section 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021, TKG 2021). You can delete it at any time in your browser settings. Note that this also deletes your projects, so export them first.
4. Microphone, samples, code and recordings
- Microphone: only if you add a Microphone node, your browser asks for permission. The audio is processed live in your browser and is neither transmitted nor stored.
- Samples: audio files you load stay in the storage of your browser (see above).
- Code mode: scripts you write run locally in your browser (in a Web Worker) and are saved with your project on your device.
- Recordings and exports: WAV recordings and project exports are created in your browser and downloaded straight to your device.
5. Web analytics with Plausible (only with your consent)
If you agree in the consent bar, I use Plausible Analytics, an open source analytics tool that respects your privacy, to understand which pages are used. I run Plausible myself (Peter Braith, alias DasPeTe) at analytics.dev.alpenstudios.com. No data goes to Plausible Insights OÜ or anybody else.
- What is processed: the page address, the referring website, browser and operating system, device type (from the screen size) and your country, region and city, derived from your IP address.
- No cookies, no profiles: Plausible stores nothing on your device and does not follow you across websites or devices. Your IP address is not stored. To count unique visitors, it is combined with your user agent and a random value that changes every day into an irreversible hash. The random value is deleted after 24 hours, so you cannot be recognised on another day.
- Retention: only aggregated statistics are kept, and only for one week.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Analytics is off until you agree, and you can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.
Your analytics choice
Your choice is shown here once the page has loaded.
6. No other third parties
All fonts, scripts and images are served from this website. No content from social networks, video platforms or ad networks is embedded, and your data is never sold or shared. Links to other websites are ordinary links, and the privacy policy of the other site applies once you follow one.
7. Security
This website is only served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS with TLS).
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15),
- have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17),
- restrict its processing (Art. 18),
- receive it in a portable format (Art. 20),
- object to processing based on my legitimate interests (Art. 21),
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before (Art. 7(3)).
To exercise these rights, email daspetemail@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde (www.dsb.gv.at).
There is no automated decision making or profiling.
9. Changes
If wicktone changes in a way that affects your data, this policy is updated. The current version is always available on this page.
